Displaying your US DOT number correctly is one of the most important things to do as a trucker. Your USDOT number is your identification as a trucker in the United States. Your USDOT number gives you the authority to haul freight for profit.
As technology advances, so do laws and regulations. In the old days, you could drive hours and hours and have different paper logs. You could get away with running without a USDOT or any regulation number.
But today, everything is on the computerized. You’re not getting a free pass for not displaying your USDOT correctly.
A lot of truck scales or weight stations in many US states have now implemented USDOT number readers. As you approach the scales, cameras read all of the lettering displayed on your commercial vehicle and it’s sent back to the main computer where DOT officers have instant access to all of your information. If something doesn’t line up, you better believe that you will be pulled over and action will be taken.
If you have any questions regarding USDOT lettering, one of our customer service representatives would be happy to assist you!
